Comments: I was attached to the "7th fleet FLAG" as a mess management
specialist 3rd class.
I worked for Vice Admiral Robert Baldwin and his staff of
officers while attached to the CG-5 in 1977 to 1979.
I have not been in touch with any other sailors of that
time frame. Not being part of "Ships company" makes that
harder.
I have a story to tell of a Hull techician I found on board
that I had gone to Boot camp with in Great lakes.
It seems that the Admiral was due to leave the 7th fleet
assignment and as navy tradition has it, you are to throw a
set of uniforms over board to davy jones.
The Admiral wanted something to weight down his set of
blues so I went up to the HT Division and meet this guy
from Boot Camp for the first time.
I told him of the Admirals wish and the HT's went to work
and made an achor our of a flat stock and ploished it to a
bright shine!
well, the Admiral was very taken and proud to use this to
sink his uniform for davy jones to wear. A navy photograph
person took pictures of the Admiral and I on deck and his
toss of the uniform. the Admiral also signed a personal
thanks to me.
I had a great experience on the Oky boat! Saw the world as
the TV commersal said!
best to all the sailors out there!
