A Christmas Party To Remember

When I was stationed at Naval Communications Station Japan at Yokosuka, one year I was on the command Christmas party committee. Since the command had many unmarried young sailors, every year we invited young ladies from a local woman's college to attend, to balance the numbers so to speak. THe college was happy to comply, it gave the young women a chance to meet Americans and to practice their English. This particular year I and another first class were assigned to handle the invitation and make arrangements for the young ladies transportation, etc.
When we went to deliver the invitation we learned that the dastardly Marine Barracks had beat us to it and invited them to their own party. We had to find another source of young ladies.
We tried, we really did, but on the day of the party we still hadn't come up with anyone. An hour before the party started, in desperation we combed Honcho Street and rounded up about twenty roadrunners (streetwalkers), promising them a fine meal and all they could drink. We hauled them to the party at the Windjammer Club in a couple of carryalls.
All went well until the eggnog and other drinks started having an effect on our guests. Then some of the ladies started plying their trade, hitting on the sailors both single and married. Some of the wives took exception to this, and soon there were several hair pulling, face scratching, clothes ripping fights going on around the dance floor while the shore patrol stood by and watched helplessly. Eventually order was restored, the party was secured, and our ladies of the evening were escorted off base. The next morning my buddy and I spent some very uncomfortable time at attention in front of the C.O.'s desk. Neither one of us was ever allowed to serve on any kind of committee for anything for the rest of our tours there.
