Yankee go home

I was serving aboard the Uss Loyalty MSO457 1967. We were taking part in war games out of Long Beach. We had loaded the fantail down with radio jaming equip. Painted over our hull no.covered up our stack insgn. wore civilian clothes,Headed out to sea flying Russian flag. Three miles out a destroyer returing spotted us and came about off our starboard side ,and asked us to Identify our self. Our capt. Ltcmd T.S Withrow sent flashing light back saying Yankee go home. This caused 5 Inch 38 to train on us. They shawdowed us for awhile and finally peeled off. I'm glad their old man wasn't as gun ho as ours. we would be picking splinters out of our fantails.
