Ray Plumlee's an American Odyssey

Traveling Webmaster's Deck Log

This is a copy of my old Deck Log (Online Journal). I am now using an online blog at my "Have Web Sites Will Travel" web site. I use it to chronolog my travels around North America (my American Odyssey).

This "Old" Deck Log is now only an archive of past postings. It tell's the reader where I have visited and what adventures I have had up til the time I started my blog on Have Web Sites Will Travel. This archive was written primarily from the perspective of a tourist. Not necessarily my work log though I may do some of that too, especially in those early days when I built the sites resouces. Initially I used it to detail my efforts in getting prepared for the adventure. Then I chronicled the adventure itself.

10 June 2004 I am now in Oregon
I arrived in Medford, Oregon today and to my very sad disapointment my primary Internet Service with Versizon does not work here. I am using my back up which is with Sprint. However, that one is through my cell phone so I can't be on the Internet and speak to customers at the same time. That is a bit of a problem for me. So I will be moving on Monday in search of a better Internet connection. Tis a shame because I wanted to spend some more time in this area. There is the Shakespeare Festival in nearby Ashland, Oregon which I would have loved to see a couple of the ole Bard's plays.
I called Verizon tech support about the Internet access problem and they told me that they use a roaming aggrement for the Southern Oregon area and it only works for voice service and not digital services. So I am out of luck.
I will have to come back in this area again after the Internet service improves.
I will remain here in Medford until Monday then head up toward Eugene, Oregon where Versizon Tech Support told me digital service should be available. What a pain!

12 June 2004 Day Trip to Crater Lake
Took a day trip up to Crater Lake. It was very much what I remembered it from my last visit in the 60's. What a beautiful trip it was and a magnificant site to see once I got to Crater Lake.

Below are some pictures I took of Crater Lake.

13 June 2004 Day Trip to Ashland Oregon
Took a day trip to Ashland where I was able to see where they hold the Shakespeare Festival. I was able to visit the Elizibethean Theater but don't have enough time in the area to see one of the Old Bard's plays. Next time I am in the area I will make sure I will be able to spend enough time to see some of the plays. I will post some pictures here after I get to Eugene where I hope to have my Verizon Internet Service back.

Below are some pictures I took of the Elizibethean Theater in Ashland, Oregon.

14 June 2004 Underway for Eugene, Oregon
Traveled today to Eugene, Oregon. As I mentioned above I was having to leave southern Oregon, earlier than I planned. because my primary Wireless Internet Service Provider (ISP), Verizon, does not have digital service in this area.
Now that I am in Eugene I have great Internet Access and can relax without having to worry about missing a new client. I plan to stay in the area about two weeks.

20 June 2004 Day Trip to the Coast of Oregon.
I took a day trip and headed over to the coast of Oregon. I visited Florence, Waldport, Newport and Salem. In addition to the beautiful scenery I tested the Internet access in hopes my Verizon Digital service would work. And it did in most palces (except Waldport). However, my voice cell phone which I have through Sprint did not work from the time I left the Eugene area until I got into the Salem area. It did not work anywhere along the coast. I was hoping I would have service so I might back track and stay on the coast somewhere. But it is not to be. It appears, at least for this year, I cannot have my connections to the world along the coast.

While I was traveling up US 101 I stopped for a visit to the Sea Lion Caves in Florence, Oregon. It is billed as the largest Sea Cave in the World. Sea Lion Cave is the home for wild Steller Sea Lions.

I took a few pictues of the Sea Lions Cave and beach area.
